UPDATE: A viewer found the patent for the Faraday mechanism (the ones with the circuit board) and it is indeed owned by Faraday. So that means this horn was manufactured FOR Federal Signal using Faraday's horn and Federal's housing!
It's patent #5596477.

  • @Hobbymaster1000 Actually, according to the patent this uses an LED and a light source that act as a solid state switch which rapidly turns the horn on and off in the same way as older mechanical horns. The trade-off is there's one less moving part and so the horn will last a lot longer. Many Simplex 4903 mechanical horns are still installed and functional.

  • Very interesting.

  • My school has these, but one of them has a lower pitch like the one on the left.

    VERY COOL!

  • Yay! I love interesting stuff especially with fire alarms. Thanks!

  • It's on Google Patents.
