Well, I heard a lot of what NOT to do and the kinds of problems that creates. But the video is very light on HOW to do what should be done, other than suggesting that the player be "experienced." Bit of a Catch 22, that. There are demonstrations of what he describes as inadequate technique, but no positive demonstration of the right thing to do. Suggestion: Play a line or two both ways, "wrong" and "right," so we can see and hear the difference.

Not bad, I thought he explained himself well. It's a valid point he's making, I just wish he'd added "unless that's what you're going for".

You can get just as good of "tone" as this douche likes to put it, from playing with a pic. If any young bass players are out there, please PLEASE! Don't listen to anything this guys has to say. The best way to play bass is to play it the way you feel most comfortable, end of story.

I get what he's saying but judging by some of the answers it's clear not everybody else does. Partly because I'm not sure he totally succeeded at putting in terms an inexperienced player could understand what the source of the problem really is. The fact is that the studio and live playing are two very different things. The studio is MORE DEMANDING in the sense that you won't get away with POOR TECHNIQUE. Producing an even, quality bass tone is A MUST for a PRO sounding record. Pick or not..
