Mirella Freni - Io Son L'umille Ancella
In september 1991 the Metropolitan Opera celebrated it's 25th anniversary at Lincoln Center by performing three different acts from a selection of popular Met productions.
In the final act (act II of Die Fledermaus) there were some special guest performances by highly renowned opera stars.
One of the guests was Mirella Freni. She sung "Io Son L'umille Ancella" from Cilea's opera "Adriana Lecouvreur". James Levine is conducting.
The idea behind these clips was to provide a High Quality version of these aria's on YouTube. Unfortunately the YT encoding creates an artificial noise in the sound. I hope you still can enjoy this.
The Source for this video was a DG laserdisc.
The release on DVD is planned on May 3rd 2010.

Mirella Freni has been a favorite of mine for many years now. That is a special sound that belongs only to her and it is beautiful.I sorely miss her collaboration with Luciano.
