Colombia, although sadly widely known for its drugs trade and violent, internal conflicts, is also witnessing a new musical movement, as a growing number of passionate and vocal musicians are keen to show their country in a new light. PLAYLIST meets some of the leaders of the pack. Bomba Estereo is one of the most popular electro acts to emerge from the country. Monaretas up-tempo, electro dance beats reflect the chaos of life in the countrys capital, Bogota. And Choc Quib Town seamlessly fuse funk, American hip hop, reggae and electronica with traditional Colombian rhythms. The future of Colombian music may well lie in fusion, as bands seek out international audiences for their unique sounds.
