Lisa Ripley, eDiscovery Manager and 30(b)(6) witness, Sun Microsystems, Inc., at Silicon Valley Chapter ARMA 2009 ITRIM Spring Seminar discusses discusses e-discovery and how her role has evolved.

The federal rule change in September 2006, which put structure around electronic information and delineated what ESI consists of and how to deal with it in terms of core cases, drove her role into existence. Most corporations should ideally have internal representative who can testify on its behalf and knows how you handle ESI; however, most do not.

Biggest challenges internal siloed culture and dealing with e-discovery.

She heavily interacts with legal and with different organizations, particularly records management - commonly, the knowledge management experts, within her company to support and defend litigation.
