The Directors of the partner firms behind waterlootheplace.com web site, HYLIFT ACCESS PLATFORMS LTD., WATERLOOTHEPLACE.COM LTD., and WATERLOO RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION LTD., are proud to be involved in the preparations to remember the 100th anniversary of this tragedy.
On Thursday 3rd December 2009 Officials from the Isle Of Man Government, Manx Heritage Foundation and the Isle Of Man Steam Packet Company will perform a wreath laying ceremony in the River Mersey.
21 Young members from TS STARLING SEA CADETS will each cast to sea a single red rose in memory of the 21 crew members who lost their lives.
14 Young Children from St Johns C E Primary School, WATERLOO, will each cast to sea a single red rose in memory of the 14 passengers who lost their lives on the 3rd December 1909.
A Mersey Mission to Seafarers Chaplain will attend and perform a simple ceremony and as the children cast their roses the Chaplain will read out the names of those who perished.
We are proud to be permitted to play our small part in this memorial and it is an honour to be acting on behalf of Manx People all over the world to ensure that this tragedy is not forgotten and that those who lost their lives are remembered.
A full list of all those who lost their lives will be displayed on this web site and following the memorial service photographs of the service will be displayed.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to HUGHIE JONES the writer and singer of the ballad Ellan Vannin Tragedy" for kindly offering to attend our memorial and perform his song live for all those who are present.
Hughie has also given his consent for the track to be played on our web site, to accompany the story and the memorial.
We have commissioned a 1:72 scale model of the ELLAN VANNIN depicted in storm force conditions. We intend setting up an appeal to raise the funds to keep this model in Waterloo as a reminder of the tragedy of the 3rd December 1909 and of Waterloo Residents Association Ltd hosting the memorial service 100 years later.
Anyone wishing to make a donation towards this model may do so by contacting us. If a local business would care to add their name to the display by sponsoring the model (£800) then please contact us via our email address. admin@waterlootheplace.com
We would like to thank all of our SPONSORS without whom this momentous occasion would not be taking place.

  • How Hughie managed to improve on an almost perfect performance of this at the Phil, 45 years later, is beyond belief. This is an incredible rendition; if the Phil' take made my hair stand on end, then this pulls it out its roots, what hair i've got left that is. Thanks, Hugh, your solo days have obviously done you well.
