This was my first attempt at an idle up flight with my rc helicopter. It's an HeliMax Axe CPv3. I still had my training gear on at the time. This helicopter is actually more stable in idle up than normal mode.
Use the training gear. First couple of spin ups, make sure you don't get any nasty vibrations. When ready, spin it up so that it gets light and see which way it goes. Throttle down and correct it with trim. It won't be perfect, but now it'll be pretty close to center. When that's done, throttle up and get it about 6" up and start hovering higher and higher as you get comfortable. Remember this, if you're going to crash, let it happen and kill the throttle. Make sure idle switch is normal!
Oh, the other thing I would recommend is to take a few pictures of the rotor head, just in case the worst happens. When you pull it out of the box, things may not be adjusted right either. Make sure the paddles are parallel with the blades, screws are all tight, tail rotor is on all the way.
nice, I'm getting my axe cpv3 soon, it's my first heli but I've been practising a lot in the realflight sim. any advices??
