I first heard Margaret Ritchie in the classic 1953 recording of RV Williams Sinfonia Antartica, based on his music for the film Scott of the Antarctic. For me, no other soprano so perfectly captures the spirit of the Antarctic in a performance that chills the listener to the marrow. Running the sopranos three contributions together may not be the most musical thing to do, but I have tried to be sensitive to the music in order to show another facet of the art of Margaret Ritchie.
