ZHANG:
Today Japan launched a satellite to monitor greenhouse gases. Its part of a mission that could boost business for the country's cash-hungry space program.
STORY:
The H-2A rocket took off from the tiny island of Tanegashima 1,000 kilometers south of Tokyo, after a delay of two days because of poor weather. Its carrying the biggest number of satellites ever for a Japanese rocket.
The main satellite is nicknamed Ibuki (pronounced: ee-BOO-key). Itll enable scientists to calculate the density of carbon dioxide and methane from
56,000 locations on the Earth's surface. Japanese officials hope it will contribute to global efforts to tackle climate change.
The mission is also a test for Japan. The country is setting its sights on the satellite-launch business in the face of competition from Europe, the United States, Russia, China and India.
[Takashi Hamazaki, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency]:
"Currently, there are about 280 ground stations in the world that monitor the levels of greenhouse gases. Many of those are, however, located in Europe, Japan and the United States, and there are still many parts of the world that have no such observation stations."
India has also heated up the Asian space race, launching its first unmanned moon mission last October.
Japan clinched its first commercial satellite order earlier this month. South Korea's space agency asked Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to launch KOMPSAT-3, designed to take images of the Earth. The launch will be in 2011 or 2012.

@yorubablk3 too bad nobody besides you cares. If people did care, then maybe we would have change in the world and all white Americans will be enslaved.
Ah, such a glorious day it would be for yorubablk3, her dream is when all white Americans are chained and whipped by their masters.
It is her dream to be married to Kim Jong Il, and watch the glorious military parade as all Americans burn in fire.
Oh what a glorious day it would be for YORUBABLK3. The greatest and most genius goddess.

@Taxidriverdeniro Well..maybe the 'genius' is geography..as it is the USA(located in the northern western Hemisphere, and bordered by the two largest oceans on the planet) that nuked, then occupied (& occupies) Japan...& has military bases all over the world, interlocked with an exstensive global surveillance & monitoring satellite system up in space ..and not the other way around, when it comes to Korea. So,it's really not hard to tell who did what 2 who, given such obvious clues.

@yorubablk3 that's exactly how it happened. 100% americas fault.
You're so smart, if only I could be as much of a genius as you...

@Taxidriverdeniro Japan attacked Korea first. The Soviet Union helped liberate it and the Japanese surrendered to the USA south of the 38th parallel. From there, the USA & its puppets harassed the part of Korea free from their control just as they did in other divided areas like in vietnam & in divided Berlin,Germany at the time. The USA had a global 'role back communism' official policy that harassment of the North was simply the east Asian theater for.The free North simply retaliated.

@Taxidriverdeniro If they did, that be a trajectory that they'd have to answer to Russia & more importantly China,if they had.

@yorubablk3 North Korea attacked South Korea first. If you think otherwise, you've been reading too much DPRK books recently.

Correct.I live in the 'freedom' of the US that you worship as a god.And i don't believe in 'greater' or 'lesser' humans based on political systems or color of skin. And if you think that the white men who created the USA are the best humans the planet has or will see..well then,i feel very sorry for your limitations.
