Wullie Beck has been fighting to clear his name for 30 years.
Out of 12 witnesses who saw the incident only 2 identified Mr Beck
Three witnesses identified a volunteer at the ID parade
Witness number 11, an off duty police man (Nigel Muckle) had number 2 out of his mouth before he turned to view the parade. But the jury were deprived of this vital evidence.
Police showed witnesses photographs of Mr Beck prior to the ID parade. (Ref Reason for referral by SCCRC in the Megrahi case)
16 Defence witnesses not interviewed prior to the trial.
Exculpatory forensic evidence was not called at trial
One witness said the suspect was in his 40s and had a moustache.
William Beck was 20 years old and was clean shaven.
Every witness except for the off duty police officer said the men involved in the robbery wore balaclavas.
Mr Beck's conviction was based primarily upon identification evidence part of which the trial judge referred to as unreliable and part of which he suggested the jury should treat with great care.
Defence witnesses have never been interviewed, not even by SCCRC who have been asked for 10 years to ascertain if defence counsel tried to speak to them prior to trial.
Why did defence did not call all of the available evidence?
