  • @1SixpenceFan I know, right? Detroits, when adjusted right, PURR better than KITTENS. Detroits aren't supposed to constantly "hunt" for idle.... there's a little screw on the side of the governor box that nobody seems to know how to adjust..... =)

  • Do swedes even know what a 2 stroke is and second detroit diesel for that matter all they know is mercedes

  • I drove a studebaker truck one ton came from the factory with a 3-53n-it was repowered with a 4-53t and a 5sp new processs -355 rear it was the best driving and riding-and plenty of power,70mph at 2000-go to studebaker drivers club-it was for sale-

  • the only way you can push a Detroit too hard is if you blow it up.

  • I you want to hear a 6v53 that the injector rack is set right on and it idles right not rollercoastering up and down, search ( Detroit diesel ford f-250.mpg )

  • @vaccumme It may be helpful to think of "doubling" the displacement of the two-stroke detroit when comparing it to a four-stroke. Since a two-stroke is firing every crankshaft revolution versus every other revolution as in a four-stroke, the two-stroke is capable of producing double the torque of the engine twice its size (subtracting of course the inherent inefficiencies of the two-stroke design).

  • detroits can never be pushed too hard gotta pin it to win it!!

  • Buffer screw is set wrong, hear the roll at idle, also note the careful way the revs are lowered to stop it stalling. 6V 53s still used by Australian Army in APVs and light transports, not bad for an engine designed in the 50's. If your in a tight spot and you have to choose between a GM and your best mate, pick the GM, they'll never let you down.

  • same motor that was in my M551a1 tank 300 hp all around good power plant
