I was just listening to another big band from 1964 (no names, but not Woody). Great players, but the ensemble passages are all ragged. Then I listen to Basie and I think, yeah. Different style, but this band sounds rehearsed. Not boring. Rehearsed. Sax soli and you hear a chord.

Listening to this makes you wonder...what happened to music

I read this om the bassdrum. Is this correct?

Nobody and I mean NOBODY could swing as hard as the Count Basie Band. This is the REAL DEAL. This arrangement brings tears to my eyes. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTY, check out jerry Lewis movies. He used the Count Basie band a lot.

Hard to see the video but recognize Jaws and Marshall and looks like Bill Hughes. I love and always dug hard Basie and his wonderful band. A powerful machine and if you stood in front of he band, the music pierced you through and through your body and soul. I am privileged to have heard and known the band for many years before Count Basie died.

DAMN that buzz roll @ 2:13 is ridiculous!!
The trumpet solo was player by Phil Guilbeau! This was from a London Concert recorded Monday Sep 15, 1965. Henderson Chambers took the Trombone solo and Rufus Jones is the drummer

It's not Neal Hefti's chart - it's Wild Bill Davis'.
Killing band though!

I've never heard the Wild Bill Version, although I know he recorded the number round 1950 - I'll certainly check it out now. - Thanks!
I thought the arrangments on this album were either by Neil Hefti or Thad Jones.
