We had this race at my house to show how difficult it is to maneuver in a wheelchair. My girlfriend Liz is in a wheelchair and it is amazing how strong she is and how little things that we don't even notice like a curb or door could get in the way to someone in a wheelchair! We used the garage floor as the starting line, up the ramp to the door, open the door while stopping on the ramp, go through the door and open the second door. There was a requirement to open and close all the doors behind you. Then we would continue around the living room on the soft carpet, open and close the front door, and around the front path back to the finish line. It was an eye-opening experience, I suggest you try something like this if you ever have the chance!

  • informative video may i ask what your gfs disabilitie is>?

  • @bobdfdy Spina Bifida.

  • this video rocks....we were watching para-olympic wheelchair races with my 6 year old who has CP and uses a power chair currently for long distance..I am trying to encourage manual use...he got a kick out of this video...way to kick their ass Liz....

  • That's the exact reason we wanted to put this video up. Liz can smoke us all day long in her manual chair, and she can go anywhere. Here is something to look into for your son. Liz's chair is what is called manual assist (turned off in this video). You have to push some but it helps. She can go up hills with the flick of a wrist, or shut it off and save the battery if she is at work or school or home. It sounds like it could help your son as you mention he uses the power chair for long distance.

  • @pcrmommy i hav cp also mine doesnt affect me mentally what bout ur kid by da way i use a manual chair lifting weights bast way to build strenghth handcycle for endurance hope this helps.

  • You learn and build your upper body up. Some doors you can pull yourself, some you never let go and use it to propel one side. 12yrs and counting. FIRST Overlooked Rule is Great a GOOD MANUAL Chair. Quickie, Colours, TIlite. You will kill yourself on what local medical supply companies call a wheelchiar. Don't waste your money no matter how cheap it is. 50lb wheelchair is worthless even for health and fit. Just getting into the trunk of a car is a task for anyone.

  • thank you so much for postin...i'm always telling my kids, that they'd get what ever alot faster if they went and got it..for example, if i needed something from car, my son can get it for me in like 10 seconds,, but if i went to go get, it would take me atleast 2 min to get there and back..thanks for postin video..awesome..

  • part time wheelchair user..unless your in chair full fukin time you have no right tellin anyone how easy it is to get around in chair..that's fukin dumb.."part time wheelchair user"..
