What happens if you use the 14k acid solution on a 22k ring. Or what happens if you use a 10k solution on a 14k ring? How would the acid react?

@mrwfraser - if you were to use a 14k Acid on Higher Karat Gold (18,22,24k) the reaction would be the same as with the 14k and stay clear....

However, using a higher potent 18K acid for instance on a lower (14K or 10K) piece would turn the piece a Brownish Color as opposed to a bubbling green as it would if it were out right fake.

So you have to damage the jewelry to test it? What if you scratch it and then it's not real and you don't want to buy it, wouldn't the customer be mad you scratched their jewelry up.

We don't usually have to score into a piece however if it is a heavy piece and questionable at times it is the only alternative. We kindly ask the customers permission and attempt to do it in an area that would not destroy the piece. At times we will even quote the price first based on the assumption it is authentic because if the price is not worth it to the customer there would be no sense in the further testing and scoring.

Testing like this is not trade compliant and Its is a felony. People like you give the Jewelry industry a bad name. Thats why these laws excit to put Illegal dealers in check.... Besides the acid test will only tell you if its gold or not........ The equipment I use is spot on and gives me the exact percentage of gold.... So keep using your acid test and shorting yourselfs on you profits....

I want to do my own acid testing kit,i would want to prepare my own acid mixture. can someone tell me what is the composition of the acids for each of the purity (14k, 16k, 18k, 20k, 24k). I cant find any info regarding it and would really appreciate if you could help me out on it. thanks

Hi i have a question, when i by 14 kt gold sometimes when i put the acid it should stay shining right? but some of the pieces i put it changes to a DARK orange or redish color?can you please tell me what that means? and i do know they're gold.... thank you great video

nicely done. only thing i'd say is that i never use a touchstone, because i've seen a lot of jewellery that has passed other jewellers' touchstone tests as gold, but turns out to be plated with the barest scratch of a file.

Have you used any other brands of acids? I am debating whether to get JSP or PuriTEST. what is your recommendation?

This kind of testing is illegal..... Watch out for this CROOK...... Always get a few estaments before you sell.......... Make sure that your check with your local jeweler before you sell.. There the only ones that can truly give you a proper estament not an unexperinced gold buyer
