[Watch in HD (High-Definition)]

"A mysterious P5 breaks the silence in the sleepy city of Carbondale, IL"

Watch as IC SD70 #1021 blasts through "horn alley" in Carbondale, IL hauling a huge manifest northbound.

AMTK P42DC #47 also shoves their train past the station platform later in the video.

*The man standing on the right side of the video is the guy who took me to Chicago if anyone was wondering. Also, sorry about the lens flare on the top in the beginning.*

Enjoy!

  • What's with the Amtrak train backing into the station?

  • Forgot to put that in the description. That was the Amtrak we rode in going south and they turned their train on the wye just north of the station. From there, they shoved their train back to the station as you saw in the video.

  • Why do they shove it into the station?

  • So they can get it out of the way and have it ready for it's morning run back to Chicago. They can't just leave the train facing the wrong way when it's ready to leave or just on the wye....

  • So the farthest down south they go is Carbondale? What Amtrak train is this?

  • For this train yes. They also have the City of New Orleans that runs all the way down the line. This train was the S.B. Illini. The train became Amtrak 391 I believe which should be the N.B. Saluki.

  • Correction, It was Amtrak 393 Illini (Service from Chicago - Carbondale). It would turn into Amtrak 390 Saluki (Morning N.B. service from Carbondale - Chicago) when it leaves again.

  • Oh okay, that's cool. It's just that they sound a little crisper and clearer. I never thought I'd say this, but I prefer IC P5s over NS P5s.

  • Very Nice! That P5 sound alot better Then the Classic NS P5

  • Theres no P5 better than that of one on an IC SD70. NS might try, but theyre nothing compared to an Illinois Central P5!

  • Nice catch on M343!

  • Cool.
