I read that the area holds a number of records: Longest straight stretch of railway line in the world. Longest straight stretch of highway in the world. Longest unbroken cliff line in the world. Second deepest cave in the world which is the Cockabiddy Cave. The cave is found on the Western Australian side of the Nullabor (meaning, treeless plain). It is located close to the Great Australian Bight and It takes a good three days driving before a town of any size can be found. The only population in the area are the few service station employees.

If you want to read a short story about my experiences on this journey, follow the link.

  • That ladder has gone now, the cave is closed to the public and there is a steel grate accross the entrance. Shame really, it's pretty cool in there.

  • I haven't been to the cave for years. It's interesting to know that the entrance has been blocked off to the public. It will save future travelers making the journey. Other then the cave the rest of the landscape is the same as can be seen from the main highway.

  • ok i went into this cave in 1989 it was easy no ladder required, and the cave opened into the size of a footy field and 20 meter high, the water was at the lowest end about the size of a backyard swimpool. so we could explore for hours, we lit candles and placed them all over the cave. In some rocky areas there was air coming thru small gaps with great force. It was amazing.

  • i had the privellage of going deep into the cave many years ago, and was astounded by the size of the lake that's in the cave, its the size of a footy field....and the water, so pure!

  • there mite be secrets in there, if what that guy says is true- cave being closed to the public

  • have u read the story by "Ted the caver" by any chance?

  • this is but one of two actual entrances to the center of the earth where the 'other' live that are far more advanced than we are. that is why you need permits to enter any cave system - the gov. does not want you there. get it? here's to the awakening into the light.

  • Wonderful. Thanks for posting
