  • Actually if you look up HwaRangDo Korea's old combat system or Taekkyun, you will see MANY of the same grappling techniques. Hwarangdo ground fighting is just about identical to Jujitsu.European HEMA grappling used against armored opponents is very similar too.Greek Greco Roman wrestling used by Spartans,Chinese Shuai Jiao,Russian folk wrestling.Closing the sistance, slamming them down, and getting a lock or choke has been used by pretty much every culture that has created armor.

  • @GuamKomudo I agree still samurai lack In fighting foreign enemies. Anyways what is the point of grabing someone when they can hit you in the groin or press your eyeballs in? Im not a expert in Samurai but I do know my history and the Samurai got own by the Koreans.

  • Actually grappling is the most effect way to defeat an armored opponent (besides a sweapon). The armor they wore was not hard to move in (Samurai anyway, idk about the other people you said) Jujitsu was created by the samurai for this specific reason. The system incorperates grappling with swords, spears, knife, chains, unarmed etc Dirty strikes, blows to vital organs. It was not the Jujitsu you will see in MMA, because like you said, it was real life. But many moves from MMA were used by samurai

  • @GuamKomudo that cool but dont think it was very effective to be graving or clinching on to a person in war. I mean there are no rules so blows to vital organs are allowed such as throat, groin, eyes and so on. You have multiple unites, unites with thick plated armor like the samurai which made it a bit hard for them to move or metal and leather armor like the legion.

  • @spiritofmuye Not all MMA - If im not mistaken, Pride FC and DREAM FC allow kicks to the gace whilst someone in on the ground. Albeit, the need to be performed in a manner similar to a Soccer Kick.

  • kick to face is more effective than punch to face. but punch to face is easier than kick to face because kick to face after takedown is banned in mma and other matches. kick to face after takedown is easy and dangerous techniques in taekwondo hosinsul. kick to face against floor after takedown is very dangerous technique because floor blocks back side of face. skull can be broken.

  • @ganitywaltz hands are weapons that can also be used for blocks. trust me when i say a punch to the face is way more effect than a kick. a kick may knock them out more often that not, but they also barely ever land if the opponent is actualy gaurding himself.

I do TKD as well but i am niether WTF nor ITF. i take an american version.

  • i always hear the same thing "wtf tkd is a watered down version of itf tae kwon do" and "wtf isnt realistic,no punches, self defense, throws, ect" for each rank,we were required to learn many throws, grappling, throws, flips, ect. and many punches. in tournements there are punches allowed, just not for points.a kick is so much stronger than a punch, and it is used to gain distance in my opinion and hands are for blocking.

both forms are great.if anyone puts the other form down, its very wrong.

  • Yes they did, they also knew that when you were disarmed or had no weapon punching and kicking was not a good idea against armored soldiers, so they figure a hand to hand combat system to over come armor. Clinch the person, so that they cannot effectively swing a sword or weapon, throw/sweep them on the ground and finish them by choke or joint lock. Armor stops punbches, but it doesn't stop your arm from bending backwards =)

  • @GuamKomudo dude the samurai and romans had swords.
