H.I.M. is a growing field that has many opportunities and most often pays very well. If you like the medical field, but do not want direct patient care, then this is a very good option for you! You will have a great clinical mind without having to deal with patients!

  • hi pink,

are there plenty of math in HIM program? math is really one of my weakness. I was debating between nursing and HIM but watching your video really convinced me of going into HIM instead. Thank u so much for the information :-)

  • @rodhora There isn't a lot of math in the program so you should be okay. There is a lot of science but it you're good in that subject you should be fine.

  • Hi Pink, I'm an undergrad student looking into health care careers and am interested in HIM. I'm also a new mom and definitely don't want to spend my life in an office working over 40 hr/wk. Are there any HIM jobs that would be appropriate for a young working mom, or should I look in a different direction for a career? Are there any part-time HIM positions that you've heard of? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • @letsgopensnat There are part time positions in HIM in a capacities. HIM is a very diverse field and there are a lot of job opportunities. I suggest that you visit the AHIMA website and search around for a while and you'll find a lot of useful information. Sorry it took me a while to respond.

  • Is this still a good career to get into or is it flooded with new grads and tons of competition? I am thinking of getting either my Associates in Business admin or Associates in Health Information Management.

  • @25aholes HIM is still a growing field and is in no way saturated. The only way I can see saturation is if you live in an area w/ lots of schools but not a lot of hospitals. Check the US Labor job boards about the field to get more accurate numbers. Also visit the AHIMA website for more info.

  • thank you so much for your time in responding my first inquiry...it was sooner than I expect. I live here in Port St. Lucie Florida and kinda new in this place too..i know that there are plenty of hospitals, doctors offices and nursing home facilities near my location but I don't know if you have any knowledge of what's the job market here in my location per H.I.M jobs..thank you once again...

  • I'm in a nursing program and hate direct patient care. NOT FOR ME. I'm considering quitting but have no idea where to go afterwards. I want to stay in the medical field. Good personal skills and fine motor skills are a must for nursing. Whats a must for this career?

  • Thanks you for doing thi! video. It is very educational.

  • @CoilyShay09 Honestly, I only think you should do an online degree because a school isn't close by or work restraints. The program at Hinds is a great one. If your interested in the BS program UMMC is great and they offer it in the classroom as well as online. Ann Peden is the person you should talk to.
