The Tonga Room in The Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco (http://www.fairmont.com/sanfrancisco/guestservices/restaurants/thetongaroomhurricanebar.htm). It is rumored that the lounge is closing. So we decided to check it out one Sunday night, (just so we could say that we did, you know, in case they really do close). If you go, you gotta try the Scorpion Bowl.
I shot this video with my Flip Video. The lounge was extremely dark, but I was able to do a little post-processing in iMovie 09 to lighten some of it. I also played around with the balance, brightness and contrast.
Music: "This Could be the Start of Something" by Dave Pell and "Theme from the Apartment" by Tito Rodriguez (both available on iTunes).
Well I went there a few weeks ago - and it was still going strong.

When I vacationed in SF in '94, I went to the Tonga room and had a blast. Took my daughter there in '97. We thought the "fake rainstorm" was the cooliest thing ever...and now today I hear it may be closing. I'm bummed out. I hope that rumor isn't true.

I second boinng's comments. This is one of my favorite places in the world. And I was sad it was possibly closing -- but I just went there recently, so it is still quite the tiki mecca. Love it - great video!

I thought the Tonga Room had already closed years ago; or had been changed into something completely different. Still looks like a fun place to go.
