One of the barrier islands of the southernmost Outer Banks, Ocracoke Island promises guests true tranquility and isolation from all the hustle and bustle of city life. Ocracoke Island can only be reached by private plane, private boat or one of three ferries. Other than the village of Ocracoke and a few other areas such as the campground, a pony pen and a small runway, the entire island is part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Youll find that navigating the island proves easy; one two-lane road runs all the way from the village at the southern end to the ferry dock at the northern tip of the island. The wealth of indigenous wildlife and maritime forest as well as history makes Ocracoke such a treasure among beaches.

Is it any wonder that many of our visitors dream of owning a vacation home here? Miles of private, uncrowded beaches and unspoiled dunes and landscape surround a quaint village. Visitors flock to the Ocracoke to enjoy world-class sportfishing, boating, kayaking, windsurfing. This area of the Outer Banks is also one of the top three destinations in the world for shipwreck scuba diving.

  • I haven't been there yet, but am leaving in two days. I will be sure to bring back some videos of my time there :)

    SO excited

  • I love this place! It's a must see spot. I have gone there ever since I can remember! The beaches are gorgeous and you can walk to the grocery stores. The ragpicker has lots of nice items. Plus it's a fun island to explore. Very small though! Every night they light the lighthouse

  • I am from Brazil. I visited Ocracoke in 1995 and I loved. It was the best camping week I ever had. People are kind, Restaurants are good, and the beaches... wow....I wish I could live there someday.

  • i miss this place so much for the past 2 years i spent winter and summer break in hatteras and every morning i took the ferry to ocracoke and spent the day there ,,one time i made the mistake of riding my bike across the ferry ,felt like i was gonna die its 17 miles to the village and with a surfboard on the bike its a rough ride...by far my favorite place in the world ,my opinion better then hawaii.

  • Like no other beach in America...you must experience it!
