The final is scheduled to be played at Wembley Stadium in London on 30 May 2009 and it will be the third time that the final has been staged at the stadium since it was rebuilt. The match will be contested by Chelsea, who beat Arsenal 21 in their semi-final, and Everton who beat Manchester United 42 on penalties after a 00 draw after extra time.
Chelsea are four-time winners of the FA Cup, having won in 1970, 1997, 2000 and 2007. Their last trophy was the 2007 FA Cup when José Mourinho was manager. Didier Drogba scored the winner for Chelsea against Manchester United. Chelsea's other FA Cup victories came against Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa respectively.
Everton, meanwhile, are five-time winners of the FA Cup, having won in 1906, 1933, 1966, 1984 and 1995 defeating Newcastle, Manchester City, Sheffield Wednesday, Watford and Manchester United respectively. Their last trophy was, in an echo of their opponents, their previous FA Cup Final win over Manchester United, when Joe Royle was Everton manager. Paul Rideout scored the winner.
If he plays, Chelsea's Ashley Cole will be appearing in his 6th FA Cup Final. If selected, Everton's Phil Neville will be playing in his 4th final, having appeared in 1996, 1999 and 2004 for Manchester United.
The two teams drew 00 in both League meetings this season, at Goodison Park in December and at Stamford Bridge in April.
Chelsea will be playing in their yellow third kit for the final after losing the toss for colours.
