Song from the age of the fifth crusade

Now my life has gained some meaning
since these sinful eyes behold
the sacred land with meadows greening
whose renown is often told.
This was granted me from God:
to see the land, the holy sod,
which in human form He trod.

Splendid lands of wealth and power,
I've seen many, far and near,
yet of all are you the flower.
What a wonder happened here!
That a maid a child should bear,
Lord of all the angels fair,
was not this a wonder rare?

Here was He baptized, the Holy,
that all people might be pure.
Here He died, betrayed and lowly,
that our bonds should not endure.
Else our fate had been severe.
Hail, O cross, thorns and spear!
Heathens, woe! Your rage is clear.

  • Remarkable performance that harkens back to an age of heroism. What are the chords being strummed on the guitar?

  • @ObscuraHessian

Thank you! I used bouzouki. A minor, C and G major.

  • @aranzoltan How can you sing in so many languages? Do you get coaching or just try to imitate the sounds best you can?

  • anche i folkstone hanno usato questa melodia per una loro canzone!!

  • good to know that my ancestors made music like this, because they were bards in the age of the fifth cruzade :D

Ritter Walther von Metze. Sein Tod wird von Reinmar von Brennenberg beklagt (in 1276).

Sie finden die Bilder in Codex Manesse.

  • Where is the knight in the image at 3:09 from? That looks like it's in a book.

  • I love the deep voice immensely - it is perfect as a harmonic and amplifies the effect of the rhythm
