  • @maupot A lesion in the putamen gives you chorea. Athetosis is caused by a lesion in the globus pallidus.

  • I am the author of this clip. It is a simulation inttended to show how the movement looks like, since it is quite difficult to understand from text descriptions. I did for my sutdents of neuroscience. I am a neurologist, so I tried my best to reproduce a "typical" symptom. Many times athetosis and chorea come together. I am glad to see it has helped others. Cheers. Byron Bernal

  • @rizhaq7 Athetosis is caused by damage to the putamen which affects its regulation of the globus pallidus

  • @emerson24 I'm glad my comment helped you.... it made my day today! Good luck with your studies :-)

  • @rizhaq7 I so just got this question right on my test this morning due to this video and comment! Much thanks! :)

  • @rizhaq7 that's actually not right. Chorea is caused by a legion to your caudate nucleus, which can give you Huntington's chorea etc. When you are talking about Athetosis (which is the one in the video) is mostly likely due to a legion to your putamen. Just for clarification.

  • @rizhaq7 Athetosis is usually caused by pathology in the subthalamic nucleus if id be specific.....

  • this can also be seen in Dejerine-Roussy syndrome (aka. thalamic pain phenomenon), caused by a stroke involving ventral postero-lateral (VPL) nucleus of the thalamus which is supplied by the inferolateral branches of the posterior cerebral artery.

  • @Wiggyify actuallly athetosis is lesion of the globus pallidus. Lesion of the putamen would cause chorea

  • corpus straitum thalamus
