Protect the Translator
Wave 3

By MrEmpirical

NOTES:
- At the beginning, I summon 10 Cronos Rage orbs to show you why I think Cronos Rage is superior to Atlas Quake for the Wave 3 fight: 10 spells is better than 5! Sure, Atlas Quake is good for clearing space around the Translator, but it can also knock enemies into the Translator, damaging him. Cronos Rage stuns enemies, giving you time to assess the situation, hit the enemies with the Hammer, or do whatever you need to do to win. You can't do anything while using Atlas Quake, but you are free to do anything while your enemies are stunned by a Cronos Rage orb.

- I activated the save game option to reset the checkpoint, so that I wouldn't have to change my magic to Cronos Rage after every restart.

- You can see I only have about two thirds of health when I start the fight. That's because I'm doing a No Chest Run. I took some damage against some enemies in Hades and I took a bit of damage in the Spiked Floor Room, but I didn't allow myself to open a health chest.

- In my first attempt at beating Wave 3, I got the perfect start to the fight. I rolled toward the Priest, interrupted his Summon with a quick square attack, then switched to the Hammer to hit him twice, leaving him in the perfect position for a Hound kick. But then I screwed up by grabbing a Hound when the Hound was too low on health for a kick, leaving the Translator vulnerable. As you can see, just because the Translator's health bar is no longer visible, doesn't mean he won't take damage!

- The reason why my high jump didn't work was because the select screen wouldn't appear. This is a glitch that happens sometimes. That's why I entered the start menu: when you enter the start menu it removes the glitch, allowing you to access the select screen.

- My second attempt started well. I interrupted the Priest's Summon and hit him twice with the Hammer, but I didn't get a Hound kick on him. My strategy is to kill the first Priest with Hound kicks and collisions, and then activate Rage of the Titans and go berserk with the Hammer to kill at least one of the next two Priests. After each Hammer combo, I cancel the recovery with a Cronos Rage orb, to keep my targets locked down and vulnerable to further Hammer strikes. I was careless in walking into the final Priest's energy well, which was disappointing. I was so eager to attack him, I didn't take the time to evaluate the situation and walk around the energy well. Luckily this mistake didn't cost me the fight.

- In my second successful attempt, I got a horrible start to the fight. The Priest teleported away from my Hammer strikes. That's why I activated Rage of the Titans earlier than usual. I wanted to kill the first Priest quickly and move on to kill one of the next two Priests. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to kill either of the next two Priests, because one of them grabbed me. I was a bit lucky that the Translator didn't get killed while I was being grabbed. The rest of the fight went pretty well. I only made one mistake: getting hit by one of the Guardians. I should have used a Cronos Rage orb in that situation, to stun both the Guardian I was attacking and the Guardian who was attacking me. A bit disappointing, but it didn't do too much damage to me. I used collisions to kill the remaining two Priests. A Hound kick to kill the second Priest, and a Guardian toss to kill the final Priest. Victory twirls FTW.

Thanks for watching. In future vids, I will show that it doesn't matter if you finish the Wave 3 fight with minimal health and no magic. I will show how you can go from the end of the Wave 3 fight to the end of the Last Spartan fight (after which you get an automatic health and magic refill) without taking damage and without needing magic or Rage of the Titans. I have already recorded most of the footage for these vids.

  • What was depleting the magic bar and restarting from the last check point about? i thought it was going to end with an unlimited magic bar..you really got me with that.

I liked watching that part in NUR+ run..it reminded me with my first NUR+ run with an 8 hours duration and a complete 100 deaths ;o

Swift dealing with Priests...RotT B.Hammer leads only to Kratos' victory.

  • @GoIdLeopard I wanted to beat the fight with a less depleted magic bar. That's all.

  • how did u get past that golden door without finishing the third wave?

  • @DarkSlayer112 Check out addaminsain's channel. He shows you how to do the high jump exploit to get over the door.

  • I'm unsure of the point of the initial 2 minutes. Showing the usage of the exploit for a checkpoint isn't that necessary. Nor showing the failure. Though one can learn a little from either I suppose. Your call.

    ---

You took a risk in allowing the Spawning of the 2x (summoned) Fates Guardians. Though you had MP, Rage, collisios, etc. to play all that down sufficiently. Without the chests, such a near defeat would be undesirable unless the victory is savagely difficult to achieve at all

  • I showed the first two minutes because I wanted people to see that with the right tactics you can fire up your PS2 and beat the fight in less than 5 minutes. No more getting stuck on the fight for hours and hours.

While it is not good to finish the fight with almost no health, the path from there to the next health refill (before the Kraken boss) is very easy. Plus you get health from the Minotaurs and Cyclopses, so it's not too bad.
