Both RDP snd ICA are long in the tooth at this point...Wait for PCOIP on View and that will blow all other protocols away...I saw a live demo at VMWorld 2009 that floored me!
Nice but does it stream the image to the local computer to use offline when not connected to the network? And how is it over the internet when connected and with a 1000 other computers on the same subnet? And is the protocol routable?
Yes, but if VDI is using RDP, then it kind of extends into a problem with implementing a VDI solution, doesn't it? Personally I want to use VDI, but ICA is a fantastically superior protocol. Try setting up tests for both before you make your decision.
I know about vmware workstation and ACE. But I'm comparing/talking about Xen's new VDI which kind of acts like personal roaming profile that updates and copies back to the network. Its not just a VM workstation.
I'm still waiting on Xen for them to push out Xenclient which is related to their project independence bit.
Please link me a quote from VMWare that says View3 is only for LAN and not to be used across the WAN. We're currently evaluating both XenDesktop and View (we're currently using Presentation Server 4.5) and that would be useful information.
Acually RDP is a very old ICA protocol. Back in the NT day´s Citrix sold this technology to Microsoft. ICA is much more advanced (=efficient) then RDP is. Now I´am sure that Microsoft made some improvements to RDP since THEN, but it isn´t huge.

This is why xendesktop still blows away vmware.
VMWare Workstation predates all of their datacenter offerings (ESX, GSX, Server, etc)
