What's the point of these email client software when you can check your mail directly via your browser?

Honestly, I dislike most of their web mail interfaces, don't like outlook either, I like Gmail's interface much better.

Is there a way to put a password lock on the program itself? Coz I refrain from using such programs like Outlook and Thunderbird because if I hand my computer over to a friend or something or whoever, I wouldn't want them to have full access to my email. Is there a way following the latest release of Thunderbird? Thanks !
