Chnam Oun Dawp Pram Mouy (I'm Sixteen)
This classic Khmer song from Ros Sereysothea is fantastic. It is paired with another song from her, Jum Pram Kai Theit (Wait 10 Months More), both of which are featured in the film Chnam Oun 16 starring Somvan Sodarny.

English Lyrics -

This year, I'm 16... This year I'm 16
There are no worries
fa la la la
Life is like flowers,
giving off a nice scent
fa la la la la la la la

This year, I'm 16... This year I'm 16
There are no worries
fa la la la
What is love?
Is it bitter, sour, or sweet?
fa la la la la la la la

  • Hello everybody,

I was reading a piece of paper about her life and the journalist was impressed by some of her songs: Pink night, New year's eve. Can anyone tell me what is the title in khmer pls? Thanks

  • The song that the band Dengue Fever covered as "New Year's Eve", is really called "Jam 10 Kai Theit", or "Wait Ten Months More", which is actually paired with the song in this video. I'm not sure about the Khmer name for Pink Night.

  • Such a great, great song! I only discovered Khmer rock music a week ago. I think it's going to become a big part of my life. Yesterday was the 34th anniversary of the Khmer Rouge marching into Phnom Penh. It makes me very sad to think about what happened. It's so important to remember and honor these great musicians. Love and peace.

  • I agree. I really like the versions of Chnam Oun 16 by Meas Soksophea and by Chhom Nimol of Dengue Fever, but Ros Sereysothea's voice is like a very fine instrument played by a master musician. She was definitely one of the greatest singers of the 20th Century.

  • 2). My dad was a tailored (he was a French teacher before he married my mother) he sewed so many clothes for the soldiers. I remember the soldiers sang this song. The soldiers were very nice. This song touches my heart so deeply. one of the soldier who sang this song was killed by the mine blew up on him when he stepped on it. It was so sad. He fought for our Freedom.

  • This song just touched my heart so deep. . . becuz I was about 10 years old in 1972 at a small city name Chombok. At that time Lon Nol's soldiers were fighting the Khmer Rouge. The soldiers were lined up and walked on the roads in front of my house (a two stories concret building).

  • A wonderful guitar playing and the voice that rock the old country.

    Thank you for the sharing.

  • Seriousy valuable resource, I have been in Cmabodia this lat month and it is so hard to find this track on cd even though every Cambodian person over the age of 10 knows this song off by heart. I ended up only gettin it in a Kareoke format with quiet vocals (the best part of Sereysothea's tracks) Of course I can't speak Khmer so I only have myself to blame..arrrgh

  • Wow... Great stuff

  • Two words: air guitar! Paired with some head-banging, hip shaking, and funny faces and you're good to go. Ahh, good times.

  • yesss i found the song to Lem Villemin's skate video :DD!

  • thank you...! showed this video to my old man, i think it brought a tear to his eyes..LOL

  • Great music by far from the early days. Man, they don't come like this anymore now a day.

  • love this song...

  • @garymaher I'm glad to hear that you love Cambodian oldies. I'll work on translating this song, per Gary :). I'll let you know...better yet, just subscribe to my channel, that way you'll know when it's ready for your viewing. It'll be quite awhile before the project is completed.

  • @lumieresrei Pink Night is based on a song by a UK band called "Middle of the Road." The original title is "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep." I haven't been able to find the Khmer title either.

  • The incomparable Ros with one of her greatest. God, what a voice, what power. Thanks for posting this masterpiece.

  • Stop confusing people who do not know Khmer. The men are asking the woman to "allow me to love you" or let me love you. They wanted to be her love.

  • Bong somlahn mean: Honey or sweet heart
