vintage gear demo by RetroSound

The queen of all drum machines...
Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer from 1981

This demo vid shows the drum instruments and the various functions of TR-808.
I used no external effects, EQ or compression. Only the pure 808 sound.

You must have very good bass loudspeakers or a subwoofer to hear the deep frequences.

  • 808 State...

  • Never liked the 808 its got no weight its ticky tacky. The OBERHEIM DMX or YAMAHA RX5 will blow it out of the water any day.

  • @serpz123 ur cool

  • @BerberseAllochtoon because that's where it came from, the 808 was the original origin of that high pitched "bpung!" sound.

  • @PopCulture20 Well, you better start saving your money up now, man - you'd be very lucky to find one for under £1000 ($2000). Ebay would probably be a good place to start, then there's always TR-808 sound samples, as a cheaper option. Happy hunting ;-)

  • @RedBryn Oh yeah I did notice a change in the SOS Band's music after Jam & Lewis came on board for the ''On the Rise'' album which why I want this tool so badly because I'm learning production and I want my music to have an 80s SOS Band Jam & Lewis feel to it.
