RARE OLDIES VIDEO WITH MR BEN WEBSTER ! Benjamin Francis Webster (March 27, 1909 September 20, 1973), aka "The Brute" or "Frog," was an influential American jazz tenor saxophonist. Webster, born in Kansas City, Missouri, was considered one of the three most important "swing tenors" along with Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young. Known affectionately as "The Brute", he had a tough, raspy, and brutal tone on stomps (with his own distinctive growls), yet on ballads he played with warmth and sentiment. Stylistically he was indebted to alto star Johnny Hodges, who, he said, taught him to play his instrument.
You can watch all my rare oldies soundies on : http://www.myspace.com/swingcocktail ! Many thanks , NICKY .

  • do you know the drummer's name? he has an awesome left hand during the breaks after 2:50

  • This recording is great, clear sound, good upload.

  • Ben Webster plays the same two choruses in this song every time but always manages to sounds fresh with it.

  • Best version we can find on youtube, for thoses who want more check the one of deezer.com from " Swing Groups ( Ben Webster 53-54 ) " for me the best one of all. good vibes cheers

  • Fantastic, priceless! This is a real treasure, thanks for uploading. david

  • Rare footage of the Guaraldi Trio in 1962! (Ralph J. Gleason's "Jazz Casual" show) Vince Guaraldi, piano, Monty Budwig, bass, Colin Baily, drums. Vince won the Grammy for "Cast Your Fate To The Wind" that year. Three years later he'd become a household name for the soundtrack for "A Charlie Brown Christmas".

  • A ré-écouter sans fin....je suis tout à fait d'accord avec les commentaires précédents : un des plus grands sax de la période middle jazz - & même au delà -

    Encore un document d'exception !

Un grand merci Nicky pour le partage ! 5 *****
