happy easter ;)

Come you masters of war
You that build the big guns
You that build the death planes
You that build all the bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just don't want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
While the death count gets higher
Then you hide in your mansion
While the young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

  • @TMVGee thanks, I haven't heard the staple singers version - i really liked pearl jam's on letterman though!!

  • Does anyone know who is singing this?

  • that would be me :)

  • Stupid, stupid images accompanying this wonderful song. The images you should have put are of Americans backing israeli troops to kill Palestinian children, or the Western armies invading Afghanistan and Iraq with the civilian populations left in the rubble.

  • One of the best covers on youtube, but it did make me a bit dizzy with my headphones on...probably would be just as good without the vox fx...Great job as is, though, for sure. Nice work.

  • whose shit idea was it to keep panning it from side to side?

  • long before President Bush, either Junior or Senior

  • my bad, the song was written in 1962-63

  • Anyone around during Vietnam knows the obvious reference would be to the US. The song was released in 1976, correct? Vietnam had just ended, and the song wwas no doubt written about and during this time. Having said that, the images are entirely appropriate of Hitler, Stalin and the rest of the commies who murdered so many. How can anyone defend 100 million dead by communism?

  • Bush, Regan and every other president of the US who was or still is in war should be on those pictures instead. We can fight against war only if we start cleaning mess in front of our door. I said fight because this is not a pacifist song, Dylan said to masters of the war "I hope that you die" and 'I'll watch while you're lowered down to your deathbed' Those masters of war were around him. Why would you use old photos of very known and dead dictators when you have hidden and active present ones

  • Hey 'performer', this song is made to raise awareness amongst people like you about rotten politics in the US! While making the song I don't believe that Dylan thought of Stalin, Hitler, Saddam, Chines, Russians, Muslim and others who are represented in America media as enemies of the US just to distract masses from local fascists. Not like you, Dylan saw that real trouble makers don't come from far, hostile countries than from greedy people next door. You have totally misunderstood the song

  • Nauseating cover that seems to last forever...puaghhh
