The worst part of Beecher's situation is that if he knew ANYTHING about how prison works he could have avoided all that shit. I more about prison than the average bear and lawyers, if they play their cards right, can have a pretty cushy sentence. Beecher could have advised other inmates about legal matters in exchange for protection and favors, and at the least he could have clogged Oz with law suits (prisoners are allowed to file suits) till the Warden bought him off with protection.
