Did you know that the tips of a male blue crab's claws are greenish blue, but the female's claw tips are red? Some people say she "paints her nails." The crabs use these claws to catch foods like sea lettuce and clams. It's this animal's scientific name, which translates to "savory beautiful swimmer," that describes why we humans know these creatures best — for their delicious meat. The tasty crabs will take center stage at UD's annual Coast Day Crab Cake Cook-Off. Submit your best recipe by Friday, August 5th to be considered for the competition. For more information and to register, call 302-645-4346 or visit decoastday.org.
