Rare electromagnetic bursts called 'sprites' that form above thunderstorms were filmed by Japan's NHK television at 10,000 frames per second. In April 2012, the International Space Station also captured the illusive phenomena over Southeast Asia.

    No, try to find a really faint red sprites above the "normal" white lightning on the second footage. It's a bit hard to see, but you'll see the red branch-like inverted lightning.

    There is little red lightning, "1 cm" above normal lightning. Not very bright.
