New Jersey Governor Chris Christie discusses the public pension system and necessary reforms. He likens the reforms to taking needed medicine that tastes bad and its long term effect in curing what ills New Jersey.
Pretty funny. As an out of stater, I recently went to a New Jersey Devils hockey game in Newark. Halfway through one of the periods they ran an ad by Chris Christie imploring Devils fans to get their "Jersey On". As soon as this tub of lard's face hit the big screen the crowd started booing. It was very loud. It was very apparent that New Jerseyans cannot stand this guy.
The people commenting are only thinking about themselves. Take the guy complaining that he can't retire before age 55 if these change go into effect - I feel sooooo sorry for you (not)! those in the private sector don't retire before 55!!!
If we fall behind with our creditors, we have to make up the payments, right?? Then why isn't the State making up their payments that they have missed? Better yet, what he failed to talk about was the billions that was stolen by past Governors from the pension system and NEVER repaid. Try that with your mortgage co. He makes the police and firemen out to the bad guys but it's the State that has failed to repay that they have taken from the pension. How is this fair? Tell the whole truth.
Lets see. Increase retirement age to 65 w/30 years of service. Screw the folks who are 55 yrs old now but can't retire because they only have 21-24 years in the system. Better yet, call their unions a "monopoly", privatize them through a vendor at 30-40% reduction in pay. And when they can't make it to 65, subject them to a 3% penalty per year which could result in a 25 - 30% loss of their pension. Oh, I can hear something, but it certainly isn't thank you.

Those publically traded companies declared bankruptcy. Is the New Jersey Turnpike bankrupt?
