This must be so much fun to take part in, is the screaming sound the Rebel Yell?

It depended on the regiment or the brigade because there are different accounts of what it sounded like. Some say it sounds like a Native American yell or others say it sounds like a whooping sound with a scream and others say it just sounds like a high pitch scream.

The yell varied greatly. It wasnt the same for any unit or man for that matter. Granted a lot of reenactors are wrong...its still decently close unless the guy is a total idiot and thinks he is a comanche.

Lots of misconceptions about Lees decision to charge. He actually had a very good plan, but several factors led to his defeat. He ordered artillery to barrage the union defenses but last minute the union commander pulled his troops up closer to lee, inevitably forcing the artillery barrage to overshoot the defenses. Lee also ordered a massive cavalry charge to hot the rear of the union line, but 700 michigan cavalry held them off and forced them to retreat because of poor leadership... The plan

Would be awesome if the actual reenactments could use black powder charges in the ground for special effects explosions. Would make reneactmnets a heck of alot more fun and realistic.

My ancestor was in the 8th Virginia and was captured. I believe the 8th Va was under Garnett's command in the charge. He was sent to two prisons after being captured before exchanged in 1865.

No its not the Rebel Yell. Its what re-enactors think is the Rebel Yell. Go to the website for the Museum of the Confederacy to hear what the yell really sounded like!
