That word goes beyond the definition. It is indicative of an experience and a history whose brutality, insidiousness and horrendousness cannot be fathomed. Its like Ishmael Reed said, white people use the word like crack and its sickening. None of us infants experienced the tumult of reconstruction or the civil rights movement. Next time you think that word is " cool" and "hip" take a look in a history book. It'll make you want to bash your head in
