Transcript:
In the year 2148, mankind happens upon a preserved cache of technology on Mars left behind by an extinct race known as the Protheans. After adopting this technology, mankind expands into the Milky Way galaxy and colonizes anything that moves with the help of a Mass Relay that allows space-faring races to instantly travel across the galaxy.
Thirty-five years later, you're aboard the SSV Normandy as Commander Shephard sent to investigate a Prothean relic. Oh, and a rogue Spectre, Saren, murders your other Spectre buddy and now you have to hunt him down.
Fast forward past all the dialogue and blue alien sex and you find out Saren has been brainwashed by the Reapers, an advanced machine race that lie dormant in dark space. All the tech lying around the galaxy belongs to them, including the Citadel which -- PLOT TWIST-- is a gateway for the Reapers!
So you uncover and defeat a single Reaper using the combined forces of all the allied races in the galaxy but - DOUBLE TWIST! - there are hundreds more napping in dark space. No big. That aside, you're the first human Spectre and the hero of all mankind--Yay!
You return in Mass Effect 2 only to be immediately killed but brought back to life by Martin Sheen to do his bidding. You're not really down but you kiiinda owe him one. You realize that a Reaper has been ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL of the Collectors, a race of crickets that have been abducting humans, which distracts from the fact that you can't do the sexy with that blue alien again and eventually settle for that girl from Chuck.
Passing through the spooky Omega 4 Relay, an epic confrontation occurs with a Reaper. But after kicking its ass and pissing off the rest of the Reapers, it's now your fault that they're gunning for Earth.
