Minnesota

Bring the boys and girls home from the war
How can they still be away away away?
This great country's alone even more
For so many children we pray pray pray

Now I may be a mother bereft
Because we let you take them away away away
And soon there will be no children left
For your soul and mine I pray pray pray

Read a book to your baby tonight
Bless her with patience and speed
Teach her the difference between wrong and right
Between justice, faith and greed
That's the change we need
Minnesota

Poison the hands and the hearts of the men
Who give and then take it away away
Keep to yourself till the book's on the shelf
Because thousands of copies will pay pay

The new and the decent will all organize
To carry those greybeards away away
Because my eye for yours and we're blind alibis
For your soul and mine I pray pray pray

Read a book to your baby tonight
Bless her with patience and speed
Teach her the difference between wrong and right
Between justice, faith and greed
That's the change we need
Minnesota

Under the lemon tree love can be found
And just as soon stolen away away away
Bury the truth in a hole in the ground
We're digging it all up today today

War is an enemy, it's rifle's in range
To blow all the answers away away
Peace is a patriot soldier of change
For your soul and mine I pray

Read a book to your baby tonight
Bless her with patience and speed
Teach her the difference between wrong and right
Between justice, faith and greed
That's the change we need
Minnesota

  • Ali wrote the song during election season based on Barack Obama's June 3, 2008 campaign speech, which he gave in the great state of Minnesota. "That's the change we need, Minnesota!" was the refrain of every paragraph, and it rang in her head like a beacon of hope. Washington DC and the rest of America has folloewd suit, and she is proud.

  • Excellent job! I love seeing original music on youtube. Please let me know what you think of my original song as well.

  • No We Can't Obama song. We can't live under this socialist, government takeover of our lives. I'm afraid and I pray, pray, pray.......and what DOES this song have to do with Minnesota?

  • Uh huh. I wonder how she feels about her Barack Obama now. What an imposter.

  • I don't see any change.

Obama is commander and Chief and just another politician.

The singer has to ask Minnesota for help because Washington, DC has failed her.

  • Am I just dumb, or do i not get the connection between this song and minnesota at all....

  • love that harmonica! good song.

  • As a Minnesotan I love it! Go Obama!
