As for the part of forming an opinion on a culture I think that's hard not to do, especially if you tend to be someone who gets lost in thought anyways. If its of any comfort to you I don't care for suburbanite culture either. The whole keeping up with the Jones thing is absurd to me, competing over wealth, status symbols and who has the greenest lawn like such things bring happiness or help you grow as a person.

I take issue with the value systems, not the people themselves.

Sorry but I think you are getting a bit ahead of yourself there. I generally don't care for music much anyways, I don't own an MP3 player or even any CD's and 90% of the time my car radio is on NPR. Rhythm is probably the portion of music I get the least enjoyment out of, so it shouldn't be a surprise I don't care for a form of music that places a lot of emphasis on it.
