Well put! That happened to a friend of mine! Apparently the fabric that is used in those kinds of cases scratch the discs especially because you're constantly flipping through it or moving it around.

It is supposed to protect your CDs and DVDs but in time it only ends up leaving numerous light scratches on your discs. This will not render your DVDs or CDs useless, but why should you inflict this on your movie and music collection merely to save space. It just goes to show that DVDs and CDs belong in their original boxes.
