On my regular sunday evening trip to the temple, I witnessed the sacred ritual of Srinivasa Kalyanotsavam (Celestial wedding of lord srinivasa). To enjoy this in a different country (Singapore) is nothing less than divine fortune.
The three deities (lord srinivasa, padmavati, and lakshmi) were first placed on a swing and thereupon a procession took them round the temple precincts with the reverberating music of nadaswaram and thavil.
Right in front of the dwajasthambam, the procession halted and the protagonists were placed in front of each other separated by about 20 yards. While the beautifully adorned deities were swayed sideways by the cradle bearers, the pujaris, the chosen representatives of the lords, danced across gaily to garland the celestial couple and kept repeating this act again and again until the marriage concluded in a fantastic climax marked by the hurried crescendo of the nadaswaram and thavil. Divine.
