Some people have asked what kind of EDC pocketknife I use. I explain the "Hunter" in this video and why I use it.

  • how do you sharpen the saw teeth?

  • @Firearms4Canada

I did a video on this just a few months ago.. check out our archive :)

  • I didnt know you could use stainless to strike a firesteel

  • @boulevardtalonman

I was always told you couldn't.. but it works on Mishmetal steels. Not as well as high carbon steel.. but it works in a pinch

  • great video, with winter coming in the northeast, snowmobile season is coming soon. last year i carried a 4"x 4" by 2 1/2 deep water tight container, most with first aid stuff. I have seen alot of your fire starting videos but the one with the bow and fire board,, I know you notch it but do you drill your hole thru ..i guess I'm just not clear on a few of the finer details. We did have a break down about 5 miles into the woods and i guess id like to see it done in wet snowy conditions, please

  • @MrDowneast

You drill only deep enough to hold the spindle in place. There are a few videos (Winter Camp Bow Drill being one of the best) on the technique. We don't get many wet snowy conditions here.. but if we do I will try to remember to do a vid on it :)

  • Before I ever heard of EDC, or was into having several folding knives, this was in my pocket for over 5 years. I have the one with the (worn off) red scales. Can you maybe do a video about how to sharpen a woodsaw, like on this knife or any other woodsaw? Thank you.

  • I would like to see a vid on how you sharpen the SAK saw thx

  • I love the Hunter too. I had one for nearly 30 years but lost it last year in Australia. I felt quite quite under-equipped without it around the house, so I bought one online - same quality and feel after all that time. And you are right about the saw. I was on a hike with some friends when I decided to saw off part of a fallen branch which was about 6 cm thick. I knelt down and sawed through it in about a minute. I looked up at my friends and they had their mouths open in awe.

If you read the information about the steel that Victorinox uses on their site, they say that it is a high carbon stainless steel, so throwing sparks with it should be no problem at all.

  • @BushcraftOnFire Theres no alchemy about this, the only thing that matters is hardnes of the striker, the hardness of the material is the key. Stainless is typically softer, but only with cheap steels. Have RAT1 made of aus-8. its hard and works well. with steel and flint its maybe different, other than carbon steel probably hasnt desired properties - didnt tested flint+stainless to be honest.

  • yeah i had a cheap sak knock off from china shut n my fingers when i was abut 11 or so. it bled averywhere and i had to use a towel and compression to stop the bleeding. needless to say my mom took the knife away ,but' it wasn't my fault
