"What is the penalty for apostacy?"
Depends. During the life of the Prophet, some enemies of Islam were becoming fake Muslims with the intent on apostatizing at a later period in order to psychologically attack Islam and encourage others to apostatize. So the Prophet ordered such people to be killed.
However if somebody is born Muslim and doesn't want to follow Islam, then I don't believe there is a death penalty since the Qur'an says that belief is possible a second time after unbelief.

I live in North America.
The term "westerner" comes with many stereotypes attached (positive or negative depending on who you ask), and a history behind it that most people don't even understand.
East vs. West, Us vs. Them, We vs. They ... all things I try to avoid in my speech.
