  • She was ran to young. Her bones were not fully formed.

Another problem is the in breeding, its a curse that waits for moments like this to rear it's ugly head. The "stud book" was closed in the 16th century and it consisted on 1 stallion and 18 mares....now we are seeing the outcome (I think in England). We need some new training standards and new blood. Perhaps some hearty mustang blood will save them.

  • i miss her so much she won from those boys rip eight belles i miss you :(

  • agreed,

  • i think there is a way. she could be suspened in the air by a padded harness until her ankles healed. but then she would have to had gone through like years of theraputic training to get her strength back in her legs. but where she is now, there is no pain. all horses go to heaven. they are God's angels.

  • That does make sense too, carrying too much on those legs.I read about Ruffian's family background and she had many champion mares in her past that had soft bones that broke easily.

  • that made me cry

  • this is so sad. im sitting here balling my eyes out

  • she could not even stand or get in the ambulance she could not be saved

  • Its so terrible how they run these horses till they break. RIP Eight Belles.

  • Remember, horses suport over 70% of their body weight on their front hooves...and she broke both of hers, so....there was nothing they could have done. It's hard, she was such a strong filly. R.I.P. Eight Belles
