As a person who did just that, I suggest the Octave Mandolin for best results. It is in the exact middle of the mandolin family and thus is capable of an extremely wide range of music. You can learn all the chords in one day. the big plus is, nobody has one and you will be very welcomed at any musical jam.
Don't buy a Korean one. Invest in a used hand-made OM. Personally, I'd suggest a level one Petersen OM. Best sound and action in a hand-made instrument. The maple/cedar or Koa /cedar are great

Ive been playing guitar professionally for 32 years. Would this be easy to pick up and learn if i commit to it?

Hi,
well easy ...depends on the size of the fingerboard and how used you are to this kind of tuning pegs, that are not mechanical as modern instrumnents, more like violin pegs.
Why not have a try and see if you likes this kind of instrument?
All the best

Great playing! You stum with a real flare. The cittern is one of my favorite instruments and Grimstock is a great old tune. I have a CD with Julian Bream doing the same piece. Also great listening.

Hi AH and many thanks for your kind comment!
Yes it is a great "tunesmith" in the english tradition (Beatles) that has composed this lovely piece. I think it is James Tyler that is playing the cittern if it is the same record which I have?
Thanks and all the best
