@George19881988 There was no need for her to do that; hiding worked just as effectively. Cheetahs are quicker than Lions, yes. But, a Cheetahs stamina isn't as good as the lions. That, and Lions are ambush predators; there could have been more of them hiding around her. She did the best thing; keeping low and staying put.

@George19881988 If it were that easy, she would have done it. Breathing would be the problem, with a cub in her mouth, and holding it while running 40 mph wouldn't be easy.

More likely she would have toyed with the lion and distracted him away.

And if you look at the ending shot, it's with the Lion off in the distance in the same place he was in the early shots. He is far more than 10 metres away, the camera is deceptive. This isn't fake but it IS deceptive.

I just can't see a protective mother cat allowing a killer within 10 metres of her when she's on her own, let alone when she's with her cub. It wouldn't have been hard for that mother Cheetah to pick up the cub in her mouth and leave (it could easily run at lion speed with a cub in its mouth), well before that Lion even got close. She lives there, she knows the land and as others have said, why not get the shot with all three cats?
