Animania Documentary (Trailer)

What's a parent to do when video games and cartoons take the place of school and studying? Animania reveals the fascinating world of Japanese anime and teens' passion for it. From wearing costumes of their favourite characters to living out their fantasy world at conventions, parents are baffled when their teens live as cartoon characters by night. This is one club not featured in any yearbook picture.

....this documentary looks a bit shallow on the insight department.

If I watch it it will only be because I've already spotted a few friends in this trailer..

From one angle I guess they're taking their own perspective.. but really this "trend"is anything but new -_-" I hate it when documentary makers "discover" a subculture, and they think they've stumbled upon the greatest "new" trend. It's a bit frustrating.

Don't judge the Animania documentary by the trailer, trailers have to be fast and entertaining. While the documentary is funny it contains many important insights into anime fans and their relationships with friends and family.

Cosplay and the whole culture around it annoys me, because I think it promotes the generalisation that "if someone likes an anime show or movie, they see it from it's most childlike and shallow perspective", rather than enjoying the deeper elements of film making, story and character development.
