Todd D. Krauss is the director of the Nano and Optical Materials Chemistry Cluster at the University of Rochester, where he is also an Associate Professor in Chemistry and in the Institute of Optics. Krauss' scientific research interests involve fundamental studies of materials at the nanometer scale, their potential use in renewable energy and biotechnology, and the applications for these nanometer scale materials in the general areas of novel biological sensors, efficient and inexpensive solar cells, and nano-optical devices. In this talk, he gives a general overview of nanoscience and nanotechnology, and why at the nanometer scale size and shape are so important in determining the physical characteristics of a particular material.
About TEDx, x=independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-
organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*
