Closing credits for the first season, featuring an extended version of the theme by Earle Hagen. NOTE: Fair use and education regarding Classic TV history are the reason for this video posting, thanks.
In the original network version, a 10 second sponsor I.D. followed at :07 {"'THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW' has been presented by...CREST, the only toothpaste proven effective at fighting cavities...", or something like that}, and one of sponsor Procter & Gamble's products [Crest, Cheer, Mr. Clean, etc.] would have filled the lower left-hand corner of the screen in the closing credits. In CBS daytime and syndicated prints, a drawing of Dick's grinning mug fills that space...
Wow! I close my eyes and I'm transported back to my childhood home in East Los Angeles and i can picture clearly our B&W TV and even the furniture. The coffee table with my Dads big Ashtray on it lol. You don't see that anymore.
