5 yrs after Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf Coast and this is one of the few videos that I've seen up till now that even remotely mention the Cameron Area. Now that's sad, that all of the coverage was all New Orleans all the time when all around for hundreds of miles the devastation was not reported AT ALL!

had some good times there

I live about an hour from holly beach and it was a cool place to go in the summer. But it's slowly coming back to life. It's sad that this town pretty much was blown off the map but all the media could focus on was new orleans and the 9th ward. At least the people there came back to a damage house holly beach came back to an empty lot.

We went to holly beach every summer for about 2 or 3 weeks.
We havent been back since the hurricane.

WOW! I was deployed to Lake Charles, LA to the Civic Center for Hurricane Katrina. I am with the Red Cross. On my one day off this is the beach I went to. How sad. I would love to go back there. The people are so much nicer than the ones here in Ohio.

I'm from Lake Charles...I went to that beach as child, its wierd to see it like that. I went down there a few weeks later after the storm and it literally made me sick to my stomach. We've heard the references to it looking a nuke went off...if you saw it with your own eyes you'd know why. But I did go down there a few weeks ago and is looking alot cleaner and theres more life down there. Even reopened the library. Still nothing down there basically, just some cars, camps and the water tower.
i went back home for a visit and went down holly beach it was a far cry of what i remember from back in the day we also had a camp there sad sad

So sad. I've been going there all my life and now it's gone. I wonder what it's going to be life when/if it gets rebuilt?
